On Friday November 3, the Upper School football team faced off against Brook Hill, their last district opponent in the 2023 season, on Senior Night. At the beginning of the game, the senior football players, the band and cross country members were all recognized. The game started with the Mustangs entering the game strong as they took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, thanks to senior Cash Etheredge with a pick and junior Preston Reeves with a touchdown. However, after winning 28-14 at halftime, the Mustangs came out flat in the second half. They then letting up 2 touchdowns early in the third and the game ended up tied. The Mustang defense had to step up. There were great defensive performances from seniors Austin George, Caden Brown and Noah Wheeler. George said, “The first half of this game was our best half of the year. Although we didn’t play the second half as well as we could’ve, I am happy with our overall performance.”  After getting a few defensive stops, the Mustangs dramatically tied it up at the end of regulation to sent the game into overtime with a perfectly executed “hook and ladder” trick play. In overtime, the defense let up a rushing touchdown, leaving it in the hands of our offense. Ultimately, the game ended with an interception by Brook Hill, sending the Mustangs home. In the end, the Mustangs played well in district, but unfortunately fell short.
