The McKinney Christian Academy art department was recognized in the TAPPS State Art Competition. Upper School students received ten placements across several categories, including pottery, relief sculpture, design, photography, and printmaking. Top awards were handed out to MCA students. Freshman, Cole Huffman, took home a first-place award in communication design. Senior, Hannah Reynolds, received a second-place award in photography. Junior, Reagan Schueler, received a third-place finish in printmaking. When art teacher Mrs. Bruegal was asked about her thoughts on her students’ performance, she stated, “We are thankful to see their God-given creativity reflected through their dedication, effort, and artistic talents. A big congratulations to these talented artists.”
Juniors, Jacob Mutscheller, Rydon Lansford, and Samuel Sunnucks competed in the Lincoln-Douglas debate in Waco on Monday, March 23, representing McKinney Christian Academy. The topic was “The possession of nuclear weapons is immoral.” The students argued for the affirmative and negative of the resolution. Rydon Lansford received a one out of two, while Jacob Mutscheller and Samuel Sunnucks got a two out of one on their initial debate. Sunnucks and Mutscheller moved on to the eight-way finals, and Mutscheller advanced as far as the semi-finals. When Mr. Phillip Davis was questioned about his thoughts on his students’ performance, he stated, “We are very proud of them, and this is an excellent first outing for them as debaters.”
