The Mustangs celebrate together after winning a set.

On Tuesday, October 30, the Lady Mustangs played the Area round playoff game at home against Lake Country Christian School. This game determines which team would go into the next round of playoffs and which team’s season would come to an end. The Mustangs unfortunately lost the first set 19-25. Although the Mustangs lost the first set, they did not back down and they fought hard in the next set winning, 25-23. The next set both teams were playing with intensity, but the Mustangs fell short, losing  30-32. The Mustangs began to play more aggressive and took the fourth set winning 25-22. When Senior Sky Miller was asked what made the difference between the fourth set and the sets prior she said, “In the fourth set our team began to stop overthinking the game and to just play. Once we did that we regained our confidence and were able to stop the other team.” The Mustangs were able to pull through in the fifth set winning 15-10. Junior Kadence Ackmann led the team with 21 kills and senior Kaylin Starling led the team with a total of seven blocks. When Senior Kylie Mullins was asked about how the Mustangs were able to persevere in the fifth set when pressure and intensity was high she said, “This was a game that I don’t think we expected to be as hard as it was. The pressure caused us a lot of trouble, but we fought through with all we had. That’s the crazy thing about this team, I think, we fight tooth and nail for every point. Not all of us were on last night, but we did all we could with what we had and secured a much needed victory. I’m so proud of all of us!” The Mustangs will play again on Saturday at 4:00 against Pantego at Coram Deo Flower Mound.
