On Thursday, February 8, the McKinney Christian Academy varsity baseball team competed in the first two games of the Matt Clark Classic tournament. Game one was against Southwest Christian. Senior Landen Jones started on the hill for the Mustangs. Jones gave up two hits and one run over four innings, striking out three and walking one. It was a slow start offensively, as Southwest Christian scored the first run in the fourth inning after they hit into a double play, scoring one run. In this game, Southwest Christian scored six runs in the sixth inning, which helped them defeat the Mustangs 0-7. Junior Marc Jensen led the team with two hits in three at-bats for the Mustangs. Game two of the tournament followed quickly as the Mustangs were set to face off against a rival team, the Legacy Christian Eagles. Starting on the mound for this game was senior Connor Jarzombek, who allowed four hits and two runs over four innings, striking out three and walking one. This game was slightly better for the Mustangs as they got on the board in the top of the first inning after Jensen singled and the Eagles committed an error, each scoring one run. Legacy tied the game in the bottom of the fourth with a single, scoring one run. Junior Judd Witte led the Mustangs with two hits in three at-bats. Ultimately, the Mustangs also dropped this game with a final score of 3-6.

The following day, on Friday, February 9, the Mustangs played the third and final game of the tournament in which they faced off against Fort Worth Christian. Sophomore Kolton Kuykendall started the game. Kuykendall gave up five runs on six hits, striking out two and walking two. Juniors Teague Spivey, Witte and freshman Josh Anderson collected one hit for the Mustangs. However, the Mustangs could not put runs on the board again, as they lost 1-6.

Their next game will be on Monday, February 12, against Prestonwood Christian Academy North.
